The 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans were released on January 7th 2016. The new guidelines focus on healthy eating patterns rather than individual dietary components and food groups. Key recommendations include following a healthy eating pattern throughout across the lifespan, focusing on variety, nutrient density and portions, limiting calories from added sugars and saturated fats, reducing sodium intake, and shifting to healthier food and beverage choices.
